The project was successful in drawing the attention at the word economic leaders conference as a warning to the climate change crisis at hand. How

List any problems with this project?

It is only displayed for a number of days and since the seaweed had to be treated for it to become flexible and emulate the properties of leather, it may not have remained as biodegradable and sustainable thereby defeating the purpose.

How could the project be improved?

The project could be displayed to a wider audience since the message is pertaining to all human kind and any efforts with regards to climate change regardless of its scale would be a step in the right direction.

In what way is this project relevant to your work (concept, materials, form, site, user)?

The project drew similarities with my research on Yarauvi as both the designs had brilliant use and manipulate regarding the inflow of natural light. Both were a clever play on space and form and both were in response to globally significant issues of utmost importance in today’s world.

How could this project inform your Ideas Factory work development?

What is it about this project that excites you? Why?

The unconventional nature of the project got me extremely excited as it was something I had never seen before. I loved the way in which the installation made out of seaweed was fashioned in a way that it appeared as though it was emerging from the window in the conference room. This juxtaposition of the manmade world in contrast to the natural world interested me the most.

Are there any other relevant projects or themes that could also be investigated?

Sustainability and sustainable art and design is another relevant aspect that I think can be explored through this work. The use f untreated biodegradable material may be difficult for artists to work with but will help forward the message they are aiming at conveying through their artwork.

In today’s day and age with lack of resources be it finance or materials, designers are often faced with challenges and hence sustainability in design is an essential theme that should be highlighted more.

Further Comments

Overall the research on this project exposed me to a new and unseen approach with the unconventional installation designed for the esteemed individuals attending the world economic forum conference. The artist’s design in response to the climate change crisis facing everyone on this plant was aimed as being a warning about the issue at hand to its audience and I think this motive was fulfilled skilfully.
